After making a few enquiries we found there was quite a bit of interest and a meeting was organised. From that meeting a club called Maiden City Motorcycle Club was formed with a total of around 40 members. A few months after the initiation of the club, due to differences within the membership, things started to go wrong and quite a few people left. From the remainder, the core of the Foyle M.C.C. was formed. Tom Robb, Davie Brown, Reggie Downey and Scott Simpson had a few informal meetings to set up the new club. A constitution was drafted, membership forms drawn up and a venue chosen. Our first meeting was on the 24th august 1999 in the Oval Bar on Duke Street. Fourteen people attended this informal meeting to lay the foundations of the club (most of whom are still members). A name was chosen and a competition was run for the best patch design (which was won by our resident artist Mickey Reid (Weed)) the patch was approved and is in use to this day. Our first committee was elected on the 5th October 1999; it consisted of Chairman (Scott Simpson) Secretary Davie Brown, Treasurer (Reggie Downey) and Vice Chairman (Tom Robb) This committee stayed in office for two successful years, our membership grew and quite a few events were organised, most of which were a success. A new committee was elected at our A.G.M in October 2003 and is listed in the annual report. Our priority as a club has been to concentrate on establishing a good and committed membership before moving on to the usual events expected within any motorcycle club – for example our first rally. We are well on the way to this (despite losing our preferred venue) and we hope to secure a better venue soon. Our Club now consists of 19 full members and 2 prospect members. |
